I had to: The Cat Markings Book Tag

The purrfect booktag for cat and animal lovers everywhere.

Three things I can’t say no to.. Books, Cats, and Cake.

I was (and still kind of am) one of those kids that everyone thinks will end up joining PETA, hugging trees, and going home to fifteen-thousand cats.. None of which actually happened (except maybe the tree part..) but there’s still time! So it’s no surprise at all that I adored this tag.

The Cat Markings Book Tag was created by Laura @The Corner of Laura, and stolen @ Whispering Stories blog, you can click on the links here to check out their pages!

The Rules:

  • Link back to the original creator (The Corner of Laura) and link back to this page (otherwise, the original creator won’t get a notification).
  • Thank whoever tagged you and link back to their post
  • You may use the graphics and don’t forget to credit the original creator (I haven’t used the graphics)

Black Cats
Pick a book that doesn’t get the love it deserves:

The Black Jewels by Anne Bishop

Seven hundred years ago, a Black Widow witch saw an ancient prophecy come to life in her web of dreams and visions.

Now the Dark Kingdom readies itself for the arrival of its Queen, a Witch who will wield more power than even the High Lord of Hell himself. But she is still young, still open to influence—and corruption.

Whoever controls the Queen controls the darkness. Three men—sworn enemies—know this. And they know the power that hides behind the blue eyes of an innocent young girl. And so begins a ruthless game of politics and intrigue, magic and betrayal, where the weapons are hate and love—and the prize could be terrible beyond imagining…

White Cats
Pick a book with great disability rep:

By the Light of the Moon by Dean Koontz

Dylan O’Connor is a gifted young artist just trying to do the right thing in life. He’s on his way to an arts festival in Santa Fe when he stops to get a room for himself and his twenty-year-old autistic brother, Shep. But in a nightmarish instant, Dylan is attacked by a mysterious “doctor,” injected with a strange substance, and told that he is now a carrier of something that will either kill him…or transform his life in the most remarkable way. Then he is told that he must flee–before the doctor’s enemies hunt him down for the secret circulating through his body. No one can help him, the doctor says, not even the police.

Stunned, disbelieving, Dylan is turned loose to run for his life…and straight into an adventure that will turn the next twenty-four hours into an odyssey of terror, mystery–and wondrous discovery. It is a journey that begins when Dylan and Shep’s path intersects with that of Jillian Jackson. Before that evening Jilly was a beautiful comedian whose biggest worry was whether she would ever find a decent man. Now she too is a carrier. And even as Dylan tries to convince her that they’ll be safer sticking together, cold-eyed men in a threatening pack of black Suburbans approach, only seconds before Jilly’s classic Coupe DeVille explodes into thin air.

Now the three are on the run together, but with no idea whom they’re running from–or why. Meanwhile Shep has begun exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior. And whatever it is that’s coursing through their bodies seems to have plunged them into one waking nightmare after another. Seized by sinister premonitions, they find themselves inexplicably drawn to crime scenes–just minutes before the crimes take place.

What this unfathomable power is, how they can use it to stop the evil erupting all around them, and why they have been chosen are only parts of a puzzle that reaches back into the tragic past and the dark secrets they all share: secrets of madness, pain, and untimely death. Perhaps the answer lies in the eerie, enigmatic messages that Shep, with precious time running out, begins to repeat, about an entity who does his work “by the light of the moon.”

Ginger Cats

Characters are like colors.. You never have just one favorite.

Tybalt
October Daye Series by Seanan McGuire

Tortoiseshell Cats
Name your favourite female character:

There are so very many.. but let’s go with:

Cassandra Palmer
Cassandra Palmer Series by Karen Chance

Cassandra Palmer can see the future and communicate with spirits—talents that make her attractive to the dead and the undead. The ghosts of the dead aren’t usually dangerous; they just like to talk…a lot.

The undead are another matter.

Like any sensible girl, Cassie tries to avoid vampires. But when the bloodsucking mafioso she escaped three years ago finds Cassie again with vengeance on his mind, she’s forced to turn to the vampire Senate for protection.

The undead senators won’t help her for nothing, and Cassie finds herself working with one of their most powerful members, a dangerously seductive master vampire—and the price he demands may be more than Cassie is willing to pay….

Calico Cats
Name a character you wish was your best friend:

The Disreputable Dog
Old Kingdom Series by Garth Nix

Who is Lirael? And what is her destiny?

Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father’s identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr’s Glacier. She doesn’t even have the Sight — the ability to see into the present and possible futures — that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Nonetheless, it is Lirael in whose hands the fate of the Old Kingdom lies. She must undertake a desperate mission under the growing shadow of an ancient evil — one that opposes the Royal Family, blocks the Sight of the Clay; and threatens to break the very boundary between Life and Death itself.

With only her faithful companion, the Disreputable Dog, to help her, Lirael must find the courage to seek her own hidden destiny.

And yes.. I do realize how sad it might be that my choice for potential friends aren’t exactly human (My second choice was Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia) but, to be fair, they are magical beings. (Not really sure how that makes it better but, somehow, it does.)
Besides.. no one will love and appreciate you as unconditionally as our more furry friends.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue never sees them–until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks to her.

His name is Gansey, a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She doesn’t believe in true love, and never thought this would be a problem. But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

Ooh, thanks for the tag! This sounds so fun!!
I can’t ever say no to books and cake too 😍. I’m not a big fan of cats personally, but kittens are cute I suppose.
Fred and George are indeed the life and soul of the party 🥰. And oh, I should really read the raven boys soon! Awesome answers!

  2. Rekha

Cats, books and cake!!! My kinda life.😍
I don’t want to take home fifteen thousand cats though. We have four at home right now and I feel 24hours in a day is not enough time to see their antics.

    1. Sheri Dye

Right? A cake to match every cat!
I don’t want fifteen thousand either.. I wear a lot of black. Besides.. Can you imagine that much attitude and personality running your life? Nope.

      1. Rekha

😂😂 I would pick cats over dogs any day. Attitude or not, cats are the best.
A cake to match every cat, that sounds like fun. 😁

        1. Sheri Dye

Agreed! I love all animals but cat are something else.
And it sounds like trouble.. delicious and adorable trouble.😆
          Do you have any cats?

          1. Rekha

            I have 4 cats at home. 😊

          2. Sheri Dye

Aw.. See. That’s just the right amount for either lots of cuddles or world domination.

  3. Riddhi B.

Aah I loved reading your answers! Fred and George truly are the life and soul of a party!

    1. Sheri Dye

That’s so nice, thank you! And Fred and George are a trip.. I love their fun, troublemaking personalities,

  4. thecorneroflaura

Great answers! Totally agree with you on the Disreputable Dog. I would love to have her as my best friend!

    1. Sheri Dye

Thanks so much! And I can share! 🤭
But, really, what the author did with that series.. The characters. The world. The magic. All of it captivated me.
