Did you read any great books this month?
Welcome back, friends!
I hope you’ve had a wonderful first month of 2023
I feel like January just sped on by like molasses, if that makes any sense, but that might have had something to do with all of the reading I’ve managed to sneak in. Oh, and that pesky thing called reality..
Unfortunately, things have started picking up and real life’s responsibilities are calling. I’m not sure at the moment but I may have to take a short break from my blog.. but that’s for another day and I’ll be sure to keep you posted if it comes to that.
Anyway! Onto happier things—the books!

What I’m Currently Reading:
The Necromancer’s Daughter by D. Wallace Peach
You can also find and support this author on her blog @ Myths of the Mirror
A healer and dabbler in the dark arts of life and death, Barus is as gnarled as an ancient tree. Forgotten in the chaos of the dying queen’s chamber, he spirits away her stillborn infant and in a hovel at the meadow’s edge, breathes life into the wisp of a child. He names her Aster for the lea’s white flowers. Raised as his daughter, she, too, learns to heal death.
Denied a living heir, the widowed king spies from a distance. But he heeds the claims of the fiery Vicar of the Red Order—in the eyes of the Blessed One, Aster is an abomination, and to embrace the evil of resurrection will doom his rule.
As the king’s life nears its end, he defies the vicar’s warning and summons the necromancer’s daughter. For his boldness, he falls to an assassin’s blade. Armed with righteousness and iron-clad conviction, the Order’s brothers ride into the leas to cleanse the land of evil.
To save her father’s life, Aster leads them beyond Verdane’s wall into the Forest of Silvern Cats, a wilderness of dragons and barbarian tribes. Unprepared for a world rife with danger and unchecked power, a world divided by those who practice magic and those who hunt them, she must choose whether to trust the one man offering her aid, the one man most likely to betray her—her enemy’s son.
What I’ll Likely Be Reading Next:
Ascension by Nicholas Binge
The Rescue by T. Jefferson Parker
Vice Manor by Daniel Verastiqui
Other Bookish News:
Last week I finally began the arduous task of putting all of my digital books into one place, something I’ve never done, and I will tell you right now that fifteen years = a lot of freaking books.. and I’m not even done yet. What a mess. But it will be all nice and organized when I’m done and that’s enough of a motivator for me.
Are your books organized or strewn across multiple decades, devices, and folders?
And that’s all folks! For now..
I hope your January was filled with many new wonderful books and fun new experiences and that February treats us all well.
Stay safe. Keep warm. And to those of you having a hard time right now.. hang in there.
Yes, we’re all back in the ‘real’ world now Sheri. It looks like you had an interesting month in January and I hope February is kind to you in all aspects of your life. ❤📚
I did and thank you! How was your January?
Unpredictable and busy. I think I would like a little more calm in February. ❤📚
Really? Wow. Usually the crazy doesn’t start until February..
Many prayers that this month is more quiet and less chaotic for you. ❤️
Oh, you dove in, Sheri. Good for you for being brave. I hope you’re enjoying TND. And I hope the real world is keeping you busy in good ways and not with areas of concern. Sometimes blogging breaks are necessary to stay balanced and do what needs doing. Enjoy your reading line up, my friend. <3
I should never have worried. I will not gush but I will say that adored TND. So much.
And the business is neither good nor bad.. merely life being life. I have considered taking a short break but this blog keeps me sane most days. Thank you though, I do appreciate it.
Is everything well on your end? ❤️
Yay! I’m delighted (doing a happy dance). I’m always busy and rushing in multiple directions (I’m in the sandwich generation). But being creative keeps me sane, as does time to relax and read. Stay well-rested, my friend.
It was a little funny. I finished the book and my first thought was ” Oh, thank heavens.. I am so glad I won’t have to tell her I didn’t like her book.”🤭
And that sounds.. stressful. I don’t know how you have time to write. Or sleep. Or remember what relaxing is. But whatever you’re doing, you’re killing it.
I do try, thank you! And I hope you’re taking care as well. ❤️
🙂 Not everyone likes every books, so I don’t stress if my stories don’t appeal to some people. It’s all good. <3
Very true.. but I do not see how what I read could be disliked by anyone, my friend.
Aww. Thanks for the wonderful comment.
It’s my pleasure! I raided your goodreads page.. and ended up adding Catling’s Bane and The Bone Wall. They sound killer.😅
Oooh. I’m so happy. The Bone Wall is dark but knowing you… lol… it will be lightweight material 🙂 And Catling’s Bane is one of my more popular books. Thanks so much, my friend. I’m pretty thrilled to say the least.
I do love the dark ones. 🤭
It’s just hard for me to believe that I haven’t stumbled across your work before now. They all sound like my kind of stories.
And thank me? No, no, no. Thank You for sharing these amazing worlds and characters with us. ❤️
🙂 😀 You made my day, Sheri.
And I’m always happy to do so. 😊❤️
I read the Shadow and Bone trilogy, and Murder on the Orient Express, and I loved them 😍
I’m glad! I keep meaning to pick up the Shadow and Bone series but just haven’t yet.. maybe I can sneak it in somewhere.
Hopefully February will be just as enjoyable for you!
