The ‘This is Your Story’ Book Tag

Everyone has a story.. What is yours?

This is a fun book tag that puts you in a story of your own making.

In the time between grown-up responsibilities, hobbies, animal care, self care, and your typical requirements for survival (like food, sleep, etc..) I make these tags.. and book lists.. and a variety of other blog-related posts. Whatever my short attention span is, at that moment, interested in and capable of doing. In other words? I pretty much need an almost constant stream of mental stimulation to keep from losing my damn mind (I can’t be the only one.)

I’m actually a little proud of how this one turned out and am excited to see what everyone comes up with.

Not an author but have always wanted to write yourself into the story?
Here’s your chance!

The Rules:

  • Link back to the creator @ ReadBetwixtWords
  • Answer each question by using your favorite (or TBR) book covers, characters, and stories
  • Tag a friend or two
  • And have fun with it!

Enjoy!

Author
Who’s writing your story?

I Choose You.. Seanan McGuire!

Author to several well-loved series like October Daye and Wayward Children..
Seanan McGuire’s beautiful and captivating writing easily makes her my first choice.

Book 1 of 16: October Daye
Book 1 of 7: Wayward Children

World
What literary world is your story part of?

Sagara has created an intricate, deeply fascinating, and wholly unique world in this series.
I would love to be a part of the community, friendships, and chosen families of the characters in Elantra.

Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara

Book 1 of 16: The Chronicles of Elantra

Seven years ago Kaylin fled the crime-riddled streets of Nightshade, knowing that something was after her. Children were being murdered—and all had the same odd markings that mysteriously appeared on her own skin.…

Since then, she’s learned to read, she’s learned to fight and she’s become one of the vaunted Hawks who patrol and police the City of Elantra. Alongside the winged Aerians and the immortal Barrani, she’s made a place for herself, far from the mean streets of her birth.

But children are once again dying, and a dark and familiar pattern is emerging. Kaylin is ordered back into Nightshade with a partner she knows she can’t trust, a Dragon lord for a companion and a device to contain her powers—powers that no other human has. Her task is simple—find the killer, stop the murders…and survive the attentions of those who claim to be her allies!

Romance
Who will be your love-interest?

Why choose? If it’s your story.. Why not have your cake and eat it too?

Thief by C. L. Stone

Book 1 of 6: The Academy Scarab Beetle Series

Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she’s desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming…

Thinking she’s been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it’s her last chance: work with them, or face jail time. Kayli resists at first, but slowly the boys reveal they can be trusted. With Marc, the straight man, Raven, the bad-boy Russian, Corey and Brandon the twins as different as night and day, and Axel their stoic leader, there’s a lot Kayli can learn from these Academy guys about living on the edge of the law. If only she can stay on the good side instead of the bad.

Especially when the job they offer her is more than any of them bargained for. After it’s done, the hunters have become the hunted and their target is now after Kayli. The Academy boys do their best to keep her hidden, but a thief like Kayli will never sit still for long.

Appearance
What will your character look like?

In all the worlds filled with princesses, queens, breathtaking seductresses, fairy tale beauties.. I would much rather be a bad-ass with a weapon. Many weapons, preferably.

(This one actually took me way longer than I’d like to admit to find a cover with a character that suited what I was looking for and, in the end, I still couldn’t choose just one.)

Killbox by Ann Aguirre
Ronah by R. Lennard
Night Broken by Patricia Briggs

Book 4 of 6: Sirantha Jax series
Book 1 of 3: The Lissae Series
Book 8 of 13: A Mercy Thompson Novel

Sidekick
What character/creature would you have by your side?

The Disreputable Dog and Mogget (I know, I tend to choose this book a lot but.. Can you blame me?)

Abhorsen by Garth Nix

Book 3 of 6: Old Kingdom

Beneath the earth, a malignant force lies waiting, greedy for freedom from its ancient prison. As the Old Kingdom falls once more into a realm of darkness and terror, the people look desperately to the Abhorsen, the scourge of the Dead, to save them. Yet Abhorsen Sabriel is lost, missing in Ancelstierre.

Only Lirael has any chance of stopping the Destroyer. With her companions Sameth, Mogget and the Disreputable Dog, she travels across the Old Kingdom in a race against time, battling Shadow Hands and dark necromancers to reach Ancelstierre before it is too late. But what hope can one young woman have against a terrible evil with the power to destroy life itself?

Good, Evil, or Gray
Where does your character stand?

“It’s not called gym-nice-tics.”

Morally Gray..
I want to be that character who makes the questionable decisions, has everything blowing up in their face, comes up with an unlikely and probably life-threatening plan .. yet still manages to pull a hail Mary out of nowhere in time to (sort of) save the day.

Steal the Light by Lexi Blake

Book 1 of 5: Thieves

When dealing with demons, the devil’s in the details…

Stealing mystical and arcane artifacts is a dangerous business, especially for a human, but Zoey Wharton is an exceptional thief. The trick to staying alive is having friends in all the wrong places. While having a witch and a werewolf on the payroll helps, being partners with a vampire really opens doors.

Zoey and Daniel were childhood sweethearts until a violent car crash took his life and left her shattered. When Daniel returned from the grave as a vampire, his only interest in Zoey was in keeping her safely apart from the secrets of his dark world. He has vowed to protect her, but his heart seems as cold as the night he calls home.

Five years later, a mysterious new client named Lucas Halfer offers Zoey a fortune to steal the Light of Alhorra. The search for the Light leads Zoey into the arms of an earthbound faery prince. Devinshea Quinn sweeps her off her feet, showing her everything the supernatural world has to offer, but Daniel still calls to her heart.

As the true nature of the Light is revealed, Zoey discovers Halfer is a demon and much more than money is at stake. Per her contract, she must give him the Light or spend an eternity in Hell. What’s a girl to do except fight for her soul…and her heart.

Designation
What will you be? (Human, Fairy, Pirate, Princess, etc..)

A hard-headed and sarcastic assassin with a penchant for getting into trouble.. and getting out of it.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Spider’s Bite by Jennifer Estep

Book 1 of 9: Jaz Parks
Book 1 of 7: Throne Of Glass
Book 1 of 19: Elemental Assassin

Opposition
Who will be your nemesis?

The Nothing.
Why, you ask? Because it would make a good story.
Besides.. Sauron seems a bit much, Voldemort isn’t all that intimidating, and I have no interest in starting crap with any of the Gods.

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende

When Bastian happens upon an old book called The Neverending Story, he’s swept into the magical world of Fantastica–so much that he finds he has actually become a character in the story! And when he realizes that this mysteriously enchanted world is in great danger, he also discovers that he is the one chosen to save it. Can Bastian overcome the barrier between reality and his imagination in order to save Fantastica?

The Ending
How does your story end?
*Spoiler Alert!*

My story will most likely end in tragedy..

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Book 3 of 3: Divergent

One choice will define you. What if your whole world was a lie? What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything? What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

Told from a riveting dual perspective, this third installment in the series follows Tris and Tobias as they battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and their selves—while facing impossible choices of courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
