My take on the ‘Spring Cleaning’ book tag

Don’t you know we’re in the middle of a pandemic?
Wouldn’t you rather be reading?

Welcome!

Tags are such a fun way to share our bookish interests and get to know one another.
And since I’m obviously, and painfully, miserable at socializing.. this is my attempt at ‘putting myself out there’.
Even just a little.

Well.. Shall we see how it goes?

The Creator & The Rules:

This tag originated with Amanda @ Between the Shelves! The rules are:

1. Getting started: A book series you’ve been wanting to read.

#1 A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I am among the rare, the few, and the hopelessly behind who have yet to read this series. Any of it. I save myself some embarrassment by being a huge fan of her ‘Throne of Glass’ series. Maas’ writing is

and the characters are brilliantly done.. And so, I’ve made it my mission to finally read it(even just the first book) by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

#2 In the Company of Killers by J. A. Redmerski

Now this book has sounded intriguing for some time now and it just keeps getting overlooked. Don’t ask me why.. frankly, I have no clue. It sounds packed with dark intensity, the characters in a race to escape violent circumstances and determined to survive the threat of their pasts. Interesting, right?
If you like dark and gritty, J.A. Remerski is an author you’ll want to check out.

#3 Savage Lands by Stacey Marie Brown

I actually only just found this series recently and it sounded like such a great story that it was added to the good ol’ TBR real quick. Hopefully it will bring a good punch of action to my reading list.

I’ve read several of Stacey Marie Brown’s books and they were delightfully steeped in the kind of conflict and chaos that has you on the edge of your seat. I love it.

No happy go lucky books here! We want fire and blood!

2. Cleaning/organizing the closet: The best way to organize books.

You don’t.
You just buy and stack.. Then rinse and repeat until ‘Hoarders’ calls or the men in white coats show up.

I suggest organized piles.

Remember to consider foot space.

Honestly, I’m one of those people who has this weirdly specific way of doing things.. but just never has the space to accomplish it. It goes something like Genre, Author, Series, Book. The shelf is what genre, the section by author, the series in order (standalones following), and the book where you left it.
If that makes sense. 😆

3. Getting rid of unnecessary things: Book/series you no longer need.

*Stares* Is that possible?

Why would you no longer need them?

These puppies are stuck with me until the day I die and then..
Then they’re someone else’s delightful little problem.

4. Get some air: Your favorite light-hearted read.

#1 Bridgerton ‘The Duke and I’ by Julia Quinn

I have every intention of reading all of of these books eventually. The ‘Bridgerton’ family is enviable with it’s love, laughter, and loyalty to one another. Family is what matters the most. The women are to be admired and feared, as it should be, and the men are an entertaining combination of old world charm and typical male ego.

I don’t read a lot of historical romance(at all) but this was highly recommended.. and, as luck would have it, I ended up really enjoying it. Definitely worth reading!

#2 The Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

I don’t read very many, what I would call, ‘light-hearted’ books.. but these two stand out for me.

The Wallbanger is hilarious. I snorted. I laughed. I made a complete idiot out of myself in reaction to many a ridiculous situation. This is definitely for anyone looking for a fun, sexy read where the main characters initially detest one another.. but eventually come to realize how incredible they are together.

5. Clean out the kitchen cupboards: Favorite food-themed read.

Blood Wager by Connie Suttle

I really don’t read ‘food themed’ books.. I think this is about as close as it gets.

An accidental vampire who bakes cookies for a tech genius werewolf alpha and is being hunted by an assassin for a council of vampires she doesn’t even know exists? Yea, I’m there.

The first book in this series may not be a five star read but it progressively builds impressive momentum, quickly becoming a wonderfully unique and interesting experience! I love it!

6. Dust the shelves: What’s the fifth book on your bookshelf?

The Diviners by Libba Bray

You know.. I have no idea where my copy of this book actually came from. It seems to have appeared mysteriously from thin air. But, hey, I’m not complaining. It’s just too bad I haven’t read it yet because.. It definitely sounds interesting.

I have read other books from this author that I really liked. If you’re not familiar with her, I highly suggest checking out ‘A Great and Terrible Beauty’, it’s almost.. bewitching.

7. Wishing for the end: A 2021 release you’re really excited about.

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

I’ve been so excited about this book coming out. It sounds deeply fascinating, the cover is odd and curiously attractive, and I just can’t wait to read it! If you hadn’t heard of it before now? Than I strongly suggest checking it out.. if only because I can then live vicariously through your reviews.

I know, I know, you’re not supposed to go in with such high expectations(and they are high).
But look at it.. it’s so pretty.

8. Long but satisfying: The longest book series you’ve read.

The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton

This is the first book in a, get this, 28 book series.
It’s safe to assume that these are books I’ve read a number of times.
Laurell K. Hamilton does a wonderful job with the development of her characters and storyline.. She would have to with a series this long.

And a hilariously fun fact is that, if you’ve read these, you’re at least a little prepared for the changes in the main character after say.. book five.

Then? Book porn.
No, really.

We go from ‘Mary had a little lamb’ to ‘let’s all have an orgy’ like *snaps fingers* that.. but more skillfully written of course.
You’ve been warned.

I’ve never been one to organize my books – I just fill up bookshelves, and I used to stack them on the floor. My daughter likes to organize the bookshelves by color but I’ve never been so inclined. I know where each of my beautiful books can be found 🙂

    1. Sheri Dye

I used to stack mine.. until the mother of all spiders decided to scurry into them.. and then proceed to disappear. I was a changed person. 😂
And I can understand why your daughter does it by color, it’s so visually appealing.. but I wouldn’t be able to find anything. I’d have to agree with your way of doing it. 🌹

  2. Belladonna

I just organized all my books by category. I feel like a grown-up now. LOL

    1. Sheri Dye

Congrats! That’s great! I always feel a little more grownup when I get things organized too.🤭

  3. D. Wallace Peach

That was fun, Sheri. I really like your answer to #3 LOL. Regarding #2, I leave all unread book in stacks on my coffee table. Only after they are read do they enter the shelves. You have some fun reads there. Happy Reading!

    1. Sheri Dye

Lol, thanks so much! There aren’t many things I cling to but my books? Yea, no, they’re not going anywhere. And that’s a pretty good system.. I might have to try that.
Thank you! You too! and have a happy Easter!
