The books, the authors, and the covers..
What are you looking forward to this upcoming year?

Hello, again!

It’s been a slow start to the year for reading on my end, quite a few of those pesky adult responsibilities have taken up my time.. but I have managed a few pages here and there.
I’m pretty sure you know how it goes.

How is your reading?
Join in! This bookish little bit of fun is going to help answer that for us!

No rules.
No tags.
Just a good, old fashioned post to show and tell.

Now.. Let’s share some of what we’re looking forward to in 2022, bookish style.

Your Bookish Goals for 2022

How many books are you hoping to read in 2022:

Realistically? I expect to complete at least 50 (not including DNF’s..)
Hopefully, though? I would like to finish many more than that.

A 2022 book are you looking forward to:

Echoes and Empires by Morgan Rhodes

Publication date: January 4, 2022

Josslyn Drake knows only three things about magic: it’s rare, illegal, and always deadly.

So when she’s caught up in a robbery gone wrong at the Queen’s Gala and infected by a dangerous piece of magic—one that allows her to step into the memories of an infamously evil warlock—she finds herself living her worst nightmare. Joss needs the magic removed before it corrupts her soul and kills her. But in Ironport, the cost of doing magic is death, and seeking help might mean scheduling her own execution. There’s nobody she can trust.

Nobody, that is, except wanted criminal Jericho Nox, who offers her a deal: his help extracting the magic in exchange for the magic itself. And though she’s not thrilled to be working with a thief, especially one as infuriating (and infuriatingly handsome) as Jericho, Joss is desperate enough to accept.

But Jericho is nothing like Joss expects. The closer she grows to Jericho and the more she sees of the world outside her pampered life in the city, the more Joss begins to question the beliefs she’s always taken for granted—beliefs about right and wrong, about power and magic, and even about herself.

In an empire built on lies, the truth may be her greatest weapon.

Are you currently or do you have plans to participate in any challenges?

I’ve actually joined the #BeatTheBacklist Challenge! (My thanks go to Carla for sharing it!)

If you’re interested in finally getting to those books you’ve been saying you were going to read forever and a day ago.. this is the perfect challenge. Hopefully I’ll be able to clear off some of my TBR!

A book you didn’t get to last year but have intention of reading this year:

The Diviners by Libba Bray

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisger

A 2022 book you would buy just because of the cover:

In a Garden Burning Gold by Rory Power

Publication date: April 5, 2022

Rhea and her twin brother, Lexos, have spent an eternity using cunning and magic to help rule their small, unstable country. Rhea controls the seasons to show favor to their most loyal stewards with bountiful harvests and short winters, while Lexos keeps the tides strong and impassable to maintain the country’s borders.

Reigning over them both is their father, who holds dominion over death, using his most powerful weapon—fear—to keep the people, and his children, in line.

For a hundred years, Rhea and Lexos have been each other’s only ally, defending themselves and their younger siblings against their father’s increasingly unpredictable anger while also trying to keep up the appearance of unity and prosperity within their borders.

Now, with an independence movement gaining ground, other nations jockeying for power, and their father’s iron grip weakening, the twins must take matters into their own hands to keep the world from crashing down around them. But as Rhea and Lexos travel beyond the security of their home to try to save their family, they begin to draw very different conclusions about their father’s style of rule.

And if the siblings aren’t careful, they’ll end up facing each other on the battlefield.

The second book in a series you’re excited about:

The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell

Publication date: August 9, 2022

When Rachel Rimmer’s phone rings in the early morning, she is shocked when she hears her husband’s housekeeper sobbing on the line. Her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France and all signs point to murder.

The French police conclude that Michael was killed by his gangster associates. They have no idea that the real killer is still out there: his ex-wife, Lucy. A year later, she and her children are happily living in London, unaware that Rachel is on the hunt for her. She may have never met this woman, but Rachel knows Lucy was the last person to see her husband alive. And there is nothing that is going to stop her from discovering the truth.

Want to read: Still of the Night

What book you might be willing to give a second chance:

The Project by Courtney Summers

If I can ignore all the unlikable, childish things about the main character in Riley Sager’s ‘Home Before Dark’.. I could probably give this one another go. I think. I can tell you it won’t be any time soon.

Lo Denham is used to being on her own. After her parents died in a tragic car accident, her sister Bea joined the elusive community called The Unity Project, leaving Lo to fend for herself. Desperate not to lose the only family she has left, Lo has spent the last six years trying to reconnect with Bea, only to be met with radio silence.

When Lo’s given the perfect opportunity to gain access to Bea’s reclusive life, she thinks they’re finally going to be reunited. But it’s difficult to find someone who doesn’t want to be found, and as Lo delves deeper into The Project and its charismatic leader, she begins to realize that there’s more at risk than just her relationship with Bea: her very life might be in danger.

As she uncovers more questions than answers at each turn, everything Lo thought she knew about herself, her sister, and the world is upended. One thing doesn’t change, though, and that’s what keeps her going: Bea needs her, and Lo will do anything to save her.

Name a ‘popular’ book that you are Not interested in:

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Monsters by Grady Hendrix

Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean

A five star prediction:

Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye

Publication date: March 8, 2022

This is what they deserve.

They wanted me to be a monster.

I will be the worst monster they ever created.

Fifteen-year-old Sloane can incinerate an enemy at will—she is a Scion, a descendant of the ancient Orisha gods.

Under the Lucis’ brutal rule, her identity means her death if her powers are discovered. But when she is forcibly conscripted into the Lucis army on her fifteenth birthday, Sloane sees a new opportunity: to overcome the bloody challenges of Lucis training, and destroy them from within.

And that’s that for me!

I hope you enjoyed this post and some of my bookish goals for 2022.. We’ll be seeing a lot of really great releases this year and I can’t wait to get started! Although, it’s more likely that I’ll still be playing “catch-up” with the last decade of books I’ve missed out on instead.

What about you?
What are your reading plans for the year?
Is there a book you’re looking forward to the most?
