My month in the world of books and blogging.
I don’t normally do wrap-ups but I’m currently experiencing some pain in the butt problems with my drafts and have found this is easier to put together than my typical posts.
First things first:
I mentioned this in my last post but I now have a Twitter account.
Yay..
I don’t know wth I’m doing on there yet but it has been entertaining seeing what a lot of authors are up to, feel strongly about, or just have to share.
I’d love to join you on Twitter as well!

What I read:
Aurora by David Koepp
Publication date: June 7, 2022
Genre: Science fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Dystopian
Pages: 299 (Kindle)
Standalone
This was a great read. The writing, fantastic. There’s just one teensy problem.. it did not live up to expectation.
I actually went into this book pretty blind but it had all the makings of a phenomenal read.. and finding out that the author wrote the screenplay for movies like Jurassic Park, The Secret Window, War of the Worlds, and so many more.. had me expecting big things.
Alas. It kept me turning pages but.. I wanted more from it.A
I do look forward to the movie, though!
Amazon – “SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE FROM NETFLIX AND ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR KATHRYN BIGELOW“
Review coming soon!
Under Her Care by Lucinda Berry
Publication date: June 1, 2022
Genre: Domestic Thriller, Suspense, Psychological fiction
Pages: 279 (Kindle)
Standalone
Last year was my first introduction to Lucinda Berry’s work. ‘Phantom Limb’ was a skillfully woven, dark, and surprisingly heart-wrenching story of two sisters, twins, and their struggle to overcome a past filled with abuse.
I enjoyed it so much that when I saw another one of her books on Amazon’s First Reads.. I just had to snatch it up.
Once again, Lucinda Berry has created a carefully spun web of secrets, lies, and betrayal that will quickly have you invested in the mystery of it all.
Deadman by J.H. Smithson
Publication date: March 7, 2022
Genre: Thriller, Suspense
Pages: 421 (Kindle)
Standalone
I almost DNF’ed this book within the first three chapters but some sick curiosity drove me onward.. Now I’m well past the halfway mark and I’ve considered tossing it out another two or three times.
Still.. a sick fascination has kept me here.
This is one of those stories where I’ve made it a point to root for the killer.. most of the time.

All These Bodies by Kendare Blake
Publication date: September 1, 2021
Genre: Teen and Young adult, Mystery, Horror, Crime fiction
Pages: 300 (Kindle)
Standalone
Summer 1958. A gruesome killer plagues the Midwest, leaving behind a trail of bodies completely drained of blood.
Michael Jensen, an aspiring journalist whose father happens to be the town sheriff, never imagined that the Bloodless Murders would come to his backyard. Not until the night the Carlson family was found murdered in their home. Marie Catherine Hale, a diminutive fifteen-year-old, was discovered at the scene—covered in blood. She is the sole suspect in custody.
Michael didn’t think that he would be part of the investigation, but he is pulled in when Marie decides that he is the only one she will confess to. As Marie recounts her version of the story, it falls to Michael to find the truth: What really happened the night that the Carlsons were killed? And how did one girl wind up in the middle of all these bodies?
Picked up these books:
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
The Magicians by Lev Grossman
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Oooh i only know the graveyard book from this 😂. It used to be my favourite. How are you liking it?
Sadly.. I haven’t actually started reading it yet. I went to but I ended up distracted by other shiny things. 😅
How are you doing?
Aah, that happens 😂. Let me know if you do read it.
I’m good, what about you?
It happens more often than I like.. but I’m such a mood reader. And I’ll do that, it sounds like it will be one of the good ones. 💕
We’re about to go on a roadtrip so.. stressed and excited. 😆😅
Oooh, that sounds nice! Have fun!!
Thank you! It was a very long drive.. But I think we’ll have a good time. 😊💕
Have you read anything interesting lately?
I hope you do!
Oh, not so much interesting but I did finish the fourth book in the mortal instruments yesterday 😂. It wasn’t bad, it was fun. Wbu?
Thank you!
Congrats on finishing it! Who was your favorite character? I loved Magnus.
And I just started Truly Devious earlier but I keep getting distracted. 😅
Ohh, I don’t know about favourite, all are pretty annoying 😂. But I like Sebastian as a villain, i mean he’s awful but he does his role well.
And ooh nice!!
Oh, thank goodness! They really are terrible..
The only Cassandra Clare series I’ve actually enjoyed so far is ‘The Infernal Devices.’
Have you read it? I like it so far but I’m only a few chapters in.. my attention span this week has been nonexistent.
Yess finally someone who agrees the characters of the mortal instruments aren’t all that great 😆.
Yes, I’ve read the first two books. I’m yet to finish it. I enjoyed it, i liked the characters more here. The plot was fine too.
I have no problem admitting how much I didn’t enjoy that series.. the sad part? If the characters weren’t so-freaking-irritating they would actually be pretty great books.
I know right!! It’s got a solid plot only if the author didn’t spend so much time exploring the depths of every single character and meaningless relationships.
The plot, her writing, all of it had so much potential.. it was the angst, self loathing, and (like you said) the almost constant relationship drama that did it for me. 😅
And now you practically need a timeline and family tree just to keep up with her books.
Omg lmao ikrrr 😂. There are so many books!
And the characters, history, and timelines are all linked somehow.. is there a book that explains the books? That I would read.
Yes, whenever I think of reading some of her other series’, there’s always some other book that i need to read before that 😂😂😑
That sounds about right. 🤣🤭
Nice looking group of books.
I also took Lucinda Berry’s book as my first reads. I have read and enjoyed a few of her books.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Did you enjoy it?
And Berry really is fantastic with darker subjects.. I’m pretty curious about ‘The Perfect Child,’ have you had the chance to read that one?
I have not had a chance to read this one yet nor have I read The Perfect Child. I have read a couple of others though. lol Sorry. Yes she does darker subjects great.
Then we both have plenty more to look forward to! Enjoy! 😊
Do let me know what you think if you get a chance to read The Perfect Child first though!
I’ve read both Rebecca and The Graveyard Book, Sheri, but aren’t familiar with any of your other reads. Have a wonderful June!❤📚
I am almost positive I’ll love Rebecca but I don’t know very much about The Graveyard book, did you enjoy it?
You too, Sandy, happy reading!
I love Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I have been meaning to read Rebecca forever.. it sounds exactly like the kind of read I would love so my fingers are doubly crossed!
Deadman sounds interesting, especially given your love hate relationship with it. I can’t help but wonder what keeps drawing you back!
The author is obvuously a great storyteller but.. there is more than a little blood, death, and violence here.
