The Books I Want to Read (but don’t want to read) Tag

Ever look at a book and think, ‘That sounds awesome!’
but grab something else entirely? Yeah. Me too.

Hello, everyone, I hope you’re enjoying your summer so far!

I apologize ahead of time for my lack of energy and concentration.
My family is struggling with some bad news this past weekend and it’s sucked the life right out of me.
But the show must go on.

First: I would just like to throw a big thank you out there to the original creator @ Jamishelves for making, and sharing, this fun tag!
I came across it @ ZeezeewithBooks and just had to try it out.
(Be sure to stop by their pages to show some love!)

I started this tag as an entertaining distraction, after all, how many of us don’t have a list of books that we want (but don’t want) to read?
I know I have far too many so it was easy for me to conjure a few dozen answers to each question. Thankfully I was able to tone it down a little but you’ll still have plenty of great reads to check out!

Enjoy!

A BOOK YOU FEEL THE NEED TO READ BECAUSE EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT IT

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The only book I’ve read by Leigh Bardugo is Ninth House, which I loved, but there’s still so much talk about this series that it can really make a person want to be more motivated.. Unfortunately, ‘mood reading’ can be a real b!tch sometimes, because this one just keeps getting passed over.

A BOOK THAT’S REALLY LONG

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
The Passage by Justin Cronin
Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky

Pages: 846
Pages: 785
Pages: 721

A BOOK YOU OWN/HAD ON YOUR TBR FOR TOO LONG

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

Sitting on my TBR, even longer than The Diviners by Libba Bray, is Fablehaven.
I think I first intended to read this series over 12 years ago but never made the time.. Talk about a long wait.

A BOOK THAT WAS “REQUIRED” READING
(E.G., SCHOOL TEXT, REALLY POPULAR CLASSIC — SOMETHING YOU FELT OBLIGATED TO READ)

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
Pride and Pejudice by Jane Austen
The Pigman by Paul Zindel

A BOOK THAT INTIMIDATES YOU

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

A BOOK THAT YOU THINK MIGHT BE SLOW

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

A BOOK YOU NEED TO BE IN THE RIGHT MOOD FOR

The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki

A BOOK YOU’RE UNSURE YOU WILL LIKE

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
The Selection by Kiera Cass

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

That’s a wrap!
What did you think?
Have you read any of these books or do they just keep slipping through the cracks?

Thank you for taking a moment to check out this post, I really do appreciate it, and I hope you were able to add some of these to your own TBRs.
Take care and be well!

I often look at books in my TBR and wonder what I was thinking when I requested it. I have only read one of the books on your list, Sheri, – The Selection – and that was a dnf for me. ❤📚

I wonder the same thing about some of my own TBR choices and end up having to clean house.
May I ask what had you DNFing ‘The Selection’?

It was just one of those books that I decided very early on just wasn’t for me. I didn’t even review it. ❤📚

That’s a good reason.. and it saves time.

I have the same sentiments for The Priory of the Orange Tree and Shadow and Bone. I did finish the Caraval trilogy and plan to continue with the other two books but for now, it will be just be in my TBR. 🙂

Fortunately it’s easy to avoid the books we’re not sure about with so many options to choose from. 😅

I’ve got Priory of the Orange Tree on my TBR too. I tried the Passage couple years ago because of the tv show, but it didn’t work for me.

I’m a little hesitant when it comes to both because of how long they are.. you have to write a damn good story to keep a reader interested for over 600 pages. 😅
