Great books I fully recommend checking out
Welcome!
September is almost officially over and to some people that means one thing and one thing only:
It’s almost Halloween!
But let’s not get into that just yet..
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the books we’ve had the opportunity to read in September.
I wasn’t able to finish as many as I’d have liked to but, then again, when does that ever really happen?
And it’s the quality that really matters, right?
Below are some great books for the season, to pass the time, and maybe fall in love with.
Check them out and let me know what you think!

Four hikers enter the mountains. Only two return. But is it tragedy? Or treachery?
When sisters Cat and Ginny travel with their husbands to the idyllic Swiss Alps for a hiking holiday, it’s not just a chance to take in the stunning scenery. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with each other after years of drifting apart—and patch up marriages that are straining at the seams.
As they head into the mountains, morale is high, but as the terrain turns treacherous, cracks in the relationships start to show. With worrying signs that someone might be following them, the sun begins to set and exhaustion kicks in. Suddenly, lost high on a terrifying ridge, tensions spill over—with disastrous consequences.
When only two of the four hikers make it down from the mountain, the police press them for their story—but soon become suspicious when their accounts just don’t add up.
What really happened up on that ridge? Who are the survivors? And what secrets are they trying to hide?

MEET THE CURE FOR THE HUMAN DISEASE
In an isolated chateau, as far north as north goes, the baron’s doctor has died. The doctor’s replacement has a mystery to solve: discovering how the Institute lost track of one of its many bodies.
For hundreds of years the Interprovincial Medical Institute has grown by taking root in young minds and shaping them into doctors, replacing every human practitioner of medicine. The Institute is here to help humanity, to cure and to cut, to cradle and protect the species from the apocalyptic horrors their ancestors unleashed.
In the frozen north, the Institute’s body will discover a competitor for its rung at the top of the evolutionary ladder. A parasite is spreading through the baron’s castle, already a dark pit of secrets, lies, violence, and fear. The two will make war on the battlefield of the body. Whichever wins, humanity will lose again.

Book 1 of 1: The Shepherd King
Elspeth needs a monster. The monster might be her.
Elspeth Spindle needs more than luck to stay safe in the eerie, mist-locked kingdom she calls home—she needs a monster. She calls him the Nightmare, an ancient, mercurial spirit trapped in her head. He protects her. He keeps her secrets.
But nothing comes for free, especially magic.
When Elspeth meets a mysterious highwayman on the forest road, her life takes a drastic turn. Thrust into a world of shadow and deception, she joins a dangerous quest to cure the kingdom of the dark magic infecting it. Except the highwayman just so happens to be the King’s own nephew, Captain of the Destriers…and guilty of high treason.
He and Elspeth have until Solstice to gather twelve Providence Cards—the keys to the cure. But as the stakes heighten and their undeniable attraction intensifies, Elspeth is forced to face her darkest secret yet: the Nightmare is slowly, darkly, taking over her mind. And she might not be able to stop him.

Write Out Loud by fellow blogger @ Daphny Aqua
(This one is still on it’s way and I’m trying to be patient but.. I can’t wat for it to get here!)
Publication date: June 27, 2022
Pages: 22
Genre: Poetry
Standalone
One of the biggest challenges of an introvert is sharing their true feeling with people no matter how close they are; they are the ones who usually keep it all bottled inside rather than show their emotions to anyone.
“Write out loud” is a collection of poems where the poet finally gathers her courage to speak out her emotions with the help of the alphabet. Her primary goal in this book is to block all the negativity that surrounds us and visualize the best of life with the hope of inspiring the many people like her so that they can as well come out of their shells expressing feelings they buried deep down through the help of things they love to do.
The Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovalino
The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis
How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie
Thank you for stopping by!
I really enjoyed the reading this month and, I don’t know about you, but I love sharing them with everyone.
(My fellow horror fans, especially, be sure to check out Leech by Hiron Ennes.. it’s something else.)
How was your September?
Did you read anything good?
I hope you’re all staying safe and hanging in there.
Prayers to you all and, always, happy reading!
The covers of your books always intrigue me. They look so good.
I have been able to get ahead since getting Covid a few months ago but am reading as fast as I can. Had to have dental work Wednesday and boy that was horrible. I didn’t even feel like reading after that. My pup hurt her back leg and has to stay in her kennel for two weeks to heal properly and hopefully avoid surgery. I’ve had a tough week. Not even counting my daughter’s pup may have bone cancer.
Have a nice weekend coming up. 🙂
Thank you, I’m glad they do. 😊
And Ohmygoodness, hun, you have had a rouch go of it.. I’m sorry to hear you’ve fallen behind with reading but I’m sure you’ll catch up in no time. (It’s so hard to read when you’re in pain or miserable.)
And my heart breaks for your family and your poor furry ones. Many, many prayers. ❤️
I am trying my best not to tear up, you’re making me so emotional. You are so very sweet dear, thank you so much for your constant support it means a lot to me. So blessed to have met a friend like you. 😌❤️
Aw.. don’t do that.. you’ll have me all teary eyed and then we’ll both be ugly crying before you know it.
I’m happy to do so and to have met you, my friend, truly.. it’s been a rough few months and your kind words and encouragement have helped me get through a lot of it.
See? Now you’ve done it. 😭🤭❤️
I am only glad to be there in time of need and I know how hard those past months been for you, you’ve also been always there to encourage me now I am tearing up as well. 😭🥰❤️❤️
