Book Covers to Love: Angels

You won’t find these feathered fighters topping your Christmas tree.

Welcome!

It’s almost Christmas and one thing that always stands out to me this time of the year are angels.
Tree toppers, ornaments, displays, they’re everywhere—and the inspiration for today’s post.

But these are not your merry and bright Christmas angels—these have questionable morals, bad habits, and a tendency to get into trouble—but this is no personality contest.. it’s about the art. Below are a variety of beautiful covers featuring some seriously fierce and completely captivating winged warriors.

Enjoy!

Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Three angels are sent down to bring good to the world: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. But she is the most human, and when she is romantically drawn to a mortal boy, the angels fear she will not be strong enough to save anyone—especially herself—from the Dark Forces.

Is love a great enough power against evil?

Flickering Shadows by Rin More

Angel Morwenna knows when someone’s l ying, but she’s the one keeping secrets…

Being promoted to an angelic detective is all Morwenna’s ever wanted. It’s security, power, and most importantly, detectives are the ones who ask the questions.

So when she and her girlfriend are tagged to rescue a psychic from some mobsters, it’s wings at the ready. She even makes a bet: they’ll be back before the sun rises.

But no one told them to anticipate vampires—or that their coven leader would recognize Morwenna from her past life.

If she loses the psychic to a bunch of social justice warrior vamps, they’re in for a demotion. But the psychic’s resisting, the humans have guns, and the vampires are hungry.

So what’s an angel to do? Roll up her sleeves and kick some ass.

Shadow Angel by Leia Stone

From the moment I saw the shadows come to life, I knew my world would never be the same.

Yesterday I was a teenager waiting tables in Manhattan, and today, monsters exist and I can see them.

Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: The Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon.

They’re on opposite sides of a brutal war, and I only have a few days to pick which side I want to join. I’m ready to choose when the Shades force my hand by cursing someone I love.

The only hope I have of saving them rests on the broad shoulders of the prickliest Shade alive, Gage Alston. He’s cold, arrogant, and quite possibly the most attractive guy I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Do I trust him? No.
Do I need him? Yes.
Do I want to kiss him? Maybe.

Perhaps I’ll choose darkness after all.

Fallen Mate by Jen L. Grey

I never expected to fall … especially for my enemy.

Stumbling upon a group of escaped demons changed everything, and the responsibility falls on me to protect Shadow City. As the battle rages on, a tug radiates from my soul, drawing me toward a sexy, mocha-eyed demon.

Though he voluntarily surrenders, I don’t trust him.

I should’ve killed him then and there…

He’s become the catalyst for even more demon attacks, but I can’t give him up. Every moment we’d spent together strengthened the bond between us, and now, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him safe.

He’s my enemy… my mate.

And he’s either destined to be my future… or to destroy it. Either way it’s too late.

I can only hope he’s worth the cost.

Reborn a Queen by Evie Ellis

A princess, too many knights, and a beast that wants something from me.

Sebastian

The gods banished Aurora from the Upper World, but I was implicit in that happening. Now we are onto yet another life, but as always, the Dark King followed us. He hunts her in every life and it turns out this one is no different. But this time I am going to kill him.

For I am her protector, and I promised her the next life would be different.

Lacey

I finally escaped my life inside the Oak Perimeter and the scrutiny of the kingdom. Unfortunately, I now have bodyguards, or Knights as they’re called. One group includes my ex-boyfriend Carter, and his gorgeous friends Seb, Ryan, and Kane. The other group are Carter’s two sworn enemies, Jack and Blake.

And to be honest with you, the choice isn’t as easy as it seems. That is because of a feeling I have that this isn’t the first time I’ve met some of these men; there’s something there, a deeper connection, one that I need to work out what that is.

And these Knights already know about the beast that frequents my dreams, telling me he is the Dark King and he will kill me if I didn’t allow them to protect me. But I’m not sure because when a demon comes for me, the Dark King surprises me by asking me to use my magic, not hide it. He encourages me to show him who I am.

Which is hardly the actions of someone wanting to kill me. Is it?

I have to think that through, because my parents made a wrong move, and I didn’t want to meet the same fate. I just hope when the monster finally shows himself to me, I’m as powerful as I suspect I am.

I won’t be his next victim—at least I hoped not.

Hunt the Night by Everly Frost

The angels only let me out to hunt.
But it’s not demons I’m sent to destroy—it’s dragons.

I’m corrupted. My soul was impure at birth. I’m an angel born with an insatiable need for vengeance so intense that they caged me, branded me, and kept me in the dark.

I’ve been promised purity and redemption, freedom from my cage. Failure is not an option. My soul depends on it.

I must hunt the Dread—a merciless clan of dragon shifters whose true nature reveals itself in the dead of night. For once my killer instincts might set me free.

But one mistake is all it takes.
One moment that costs me my freedom once more.

Now, my life rests in the hands of Callan Steele, a Dread dragon whose touch sears my corrupted soul.

He claims my strength and my vengeance for his own and tells me that the fire in my angelic heart belongs to him.

That I belong to him.

Some angels fall, but I won’t crash and burn.

Plague of Angels by John Patrick Kennedy

She’s the Queen of Hell.
He’s the Son of God.
They’ll end humanity… together.

Nyx is the ruler of the banished Angels. When her flock returns home, she’s stuck on Earth with none other than the Son of God. Surprisingly, God’s son tells her he was tricked into sacrificing himself for a cause he doesn’t believe in – mankind’s redemption. As his mortal body dies, the Son of God offers the Queen of Hell a paradise on Earth if she completes a single mission: helping him obliterate humanity.

Nyx launches a thousand-year campaign of violence, sex, and betrayal to force God’s people to worship her instead. From the back streets of Jerusalem to the Pope’s bedchamber, Nyx and her companions work to destroy the worshippers of God.

What Nyx doesn’t realize is that her arrangement with God’s son isn’t as simple as it seems. The Son of God has plans that nobody will see coming…

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land, but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. When a royal messenger summons her ailing father, once a tailor of renown, to court, Maia makes the ultimate sacrifice and poses as a boy to take his place. She knows her life is forfeit if her secret is discovered, but she’ll take that risk to achieve her dream and save her family from ruin. There’s just one catch: Maia is one of twelve tailors in a cutthroat competition for the job.

Backstabbing and lies run rampant as the tailors compete in challenges to prove their artistry and skill. Maia’s task is further complicated when she draws the attention of the court magician, Edan, whose piercing eyes seem to see straight through her disguise.

And nothing could have prepared her for the unthinkable final challenge: to sew three magic gowns for the emperor’s reluctant bride-to-be, from the sun, the moon, and the stars. With this impossible task before her, she embarks on a journey to the far reaches of the kingdom, seeking the sun, the moon, and the stars, and finding more than she ever could have imagined.

Angel in Training by C.L. Coffey

Protect her charge. Solve a murder. Earn her wings.

Angelina Connors has to prove herself as an angel and earn her wings. To do that, she must follow the rules: don’t tell anyone what she is, and do everything in her power to keep one human alive.

Except that human is rookie detective, Joshua Walsh, and he’s in over his head with the serial killer case he’s working on. Plaguing the streets of New Orleans, the killer seems to be picking victims at random. Until Angel discovers a dark secret that proves nothing is really a coincidence.

Now all she needs to do is convince Joshua that there’s something supernatural behind the increased murder-rate in the city, all while making sure she doesn’t break the most important, unspoken, rule for angels:

Don’t fall in love with a human. Because breaking that rule will lead to a fate worse than death…

Dream Angel by Jo Wilde

Broken-hearted, Stephanie Ray leaves behind her friends in Texas and moves to Louisiana for a new start.

Things take a thrilling – and terrifying – turn when she meets the alluring Aidan Bane. Thrust into a mystical world of dark magic, Stephanie finds herself surrounded by evil forces. Aidan offers his powerful protection… but it comes with a heavy price. Love is never free.

When Stephanie stumbles upon a private conversation between Aidan and a family member, Aidan’s intentions become suspiciously questioned.

Darkly romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Dream Angel captures the struggle between defying our hearts and quenching our desires.

Claimed by Gods by Eva Chase

The gods walk among us. And they just might steal your soul… or your heart.

I thought I’d survived everything life could throw at me. All I wanted was to keep my distance from the criminals I work for and get my little brother out of the hell that is our mother’s house.

Then I died and woke up to four stunningly hot gods telling me I’m now a valkyrie.

Sly, sharp Loki.
Jovial but ferocious Thor.
Dreamily compassionate Baldur.
Grim and secretive Hod.

They all have something to teach me. And around them, my walls start to crack.

But the gods didn’t summon me just for kicks. Their king is missing, and they need me to find him. The first three valkyries they sent on the job never made it back.

More power is awakening in me than I could ever have imagined—and the gods’ enemies are more devious than even they knew. It’s going to take every trick in the book for me to save myself, my brother, and these divine men who’re getting under my skin in the most alluring way.

I’m Aria Watson, and Valhalla ain’t seen nothing yet.

    Misbehaving angels are the best!

    1. Sheri Dye

Lol. Agreed! Characters behaving badly is always more entertaining to me than those playing by the rules.

Lots of sexy angels with swords there, Sheri. I have to admit to not really liking most of those. But the cover of “Halo” is very pretty, and I was intrigued by the “Plague of Angels” and “Spin the Dawn” enough to want closer looks. Those two were very creative. Thanks for the fun post!

I’ve only read a handful of stories with angels in them but they do make for some pretty stunning covers.
I hope you enjoy the ones that caught your eye! (‘Plague of Angels’ has me really curious too.)
It’s always a pleasure! Thank you for always taking the time read and comment, it’s much appreciated. ❤️
