April 2023: What Books Made Your Month?

Where the time has gone? Between the pages of a book.. or two.

Welcome, everyone!

Anyone know how the heck it’s May already? (well.. nearly)
I swear we were just wrapping Christmas presents but.. here we are.

I hope April was a good month for you, full of wonderful reads and relaxing Spring days.
Hey, one can dream.

Thanks to a few too many projects and real world responsibilities I didn’t get nearly as much reading as I’d have liked,
I have my fingers crossed that May will be more productive though.

What I’m Reading:

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Vol. 6 by Koyoharu Gotouge

The members of the Demon Slayer Corps are sworn to destroy demons wherever they find them—but the condition of Tanjiro’s sister, Nezuko, is a problem. What will the Hashira—the leaders of the Demon Slayer Corps—do about Tanjiro protecting his own demonic sister? Meanwhile, Kibutsuji assembles his own minions and intensifies his search for Tanjiro…

The Lost Victim by Jennifer Hunter

After his sister disappeared, FBI consultant and psychologist Ryan Strickland spent years looking for answers in an investigation gone tragically cold. But in his work, Ryan has built a reputation for getting reluctant victims to speak. A witness has been found who can identify an elusive serial killer whose crimes reach back decades. However, Olivia, the silent and scarred young woman in Ryan’s care, isn’t telling all. Yet.

As a guarded trust develops between her and Ryan, Olivia agrees to return to the nightmare from which she fled—an isolated and abandoned farmhouse on the outskirts of town. Any evidence could lead authorities one step closer to finding the killer…and help fill in the missing pieces of Ryan’s own past.

But no one is prepared for what they find or for the unspeakable truths revealed in Olivia’s darkest memories.

What I Hope to Read Next:

Maniac Menagerie by Iain Rob Wright
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher
Graveneye by Sloane Leong and Anna Bowles

Books I’ve Won/Picked Up:

ARC With a Kiss We Die by L.R. Dorn

I’m Ryanna Raines. And welcome to “The Raines Report.

Ryanna Raines is the host of a popular true-crime podcast. Her specialty is investigative journalism, her style is truth-seeking moxie, and with millions of listeners along for the ride, her star is rising. But when an intriguing message is left on her tip-line, the reporter is pulled into the most challenging case of her career.

The mangled bodies of a husband and wife have been discovered in their multi-million-dollar estate in Southern California. The prime suspects are their twenty-two-year-old son and his girlfriend, two college theater students who are now facing arrest and indictment. In a surprising move, they only want to speak with Ryanna, offering exclusive interviews in exchange for her help getting their side of the story told.

Instead of a badge or a weapon, Ryanna carries her voice recorder onto the battlefield of the high-profile murder investigation. Through a series of interviews, Ryanna examines her subjects from multiple angles and diverse points of view, breaking past the walls of “he said, she said” to pierce at a dark and horrible truth.

And that’s a wrap!

I’m reading two nonfiction from the 90’s. About the Internet as snake oil; and Marianne Williamson. Both rereads but very interesting now.

      They sound it.
I don’t pick up a lot of nonfiction but there are so many different subjects, people, and places to read and learn about that you can always find something that snags your interest.
      Happy reading!

My daughter is obsessed with Demon Slayer! Last year I bought her the manga set, with the intent of picking it up and reading it for myself since I’m also curious, but I haven’t gotten very far yet.

Lucky girl! It’s a good manga with a lot of interesting and entertaining characters.. but it kind of feels like they took a handful of fan favorites and mashed them together. Atleast they did it well.
I’d love to know what you think if you do pick it up again.

  3. Rebecca Cuningham

I read a graphic novel my teen just finished, Castle Waiting (Volumes I and II). Great retelling of fairy tales with cool twists. Very imaginative writer/artist. I didn’t want the fictional world to end.

That sounds intriguing.. I’ll have to check it out, thanks! 😊

I loved it, especially the bearded ladies, lovingly portrayed!

No luck finding it at our “local” comic store so I’ll have to see if I can find it online. You have me really curious.

It’s worth reading. It is novel length. Hope you can find it at your local library. 🙂 Worth buying, though.

The library is a bit depressing here, tiny town and all, so I’ll see about grabbing it online when I get a chance. Thanks.😊
