Food and family.. what’s not to love?
Hello, friends, and welcome!
Thanksgiving is hands down one of my favorite holidays.
A day full of delicious foods, family coming together, and taking the time to appreciate them both..
It’s a day I look forward to every year.
Today’s post will be a bit of a mish-mash of things. Since I can’t share all of the amazing moments and memories we’ll create, I figured I would share what I can. Below you’ll find a poem, a recipe, and fun facts to celebrate and honor the chaos of Thanksgiving.
Enjoy!
A Poem:
Thanksgiving
“Greetings fly fast as we crowd through the door
And under the old roof we gather once more
Just as we did when the youngsters were small;
Mother’s a little bit grayer, that’s all.
Father’s a little bit older, but still
Ready to romp an’ to laugh with a will.
Here we are back at the table again
Tellin’ our stories as women an’ men.”
—Edgar Guest
A delicious recipe to add to your table:
Love pumpkin pie but not so big on the crust? You need to try this!
My mother-in-law first taught me how to make this recipe when I was sixteen and I’ve made one nearly every year since, it’s so easy to throw together and tastes absolutely amazing.
Crustless Pumpkin Pie
2 cups Canned or Fresh Pumpkin Puree
2 cups Milk
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 Flour
1 tspn Salt
1 1/2 tspn Pumpkin Spice
Combine all of the ingredients in one bowl.
Mix well. (if it comes out rather soupy/wet, don’t worry, it should be)
Bake at 350° for 35 minutes, rotate the pan, bake for 35 minutes more.
Use a toothpick or fork to check the center, if it comes out clean, remove the pie and let cool.. If it’s not quite done, give it another 10-15 minutes.
Let it cool completely, cover it, and place in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Try it, you’ll love it!
Fun Facts:
Out of all those who celebrated the first Thanksgiving, Historians believe only five women were present.
Americans consume around three billion calories every year in Turkey alone.. Yikes. Can you imagine how much the rest is?
Josepha Hale, the same woman who wrote ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb,’ wrote letters to Abraham Lincoln for seventeen years before finally convincing him to declare it a national holiday.
The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.. Yeah, I didn’t need to know that either.
“Jingle Bells” was originally a Thanksgiving song.
And that’s all I have for now..
Thank you for checking out this post. For your support and friendship. Thank you for being you.
Stay safe out there and have an amazing day.
