It’s a Halloween Book Tag!

This is such a great way for book lovers to celebrate the Halloween season!

With All Hallows’ Eve looming ever closer in the background, it’s a scramble to tuck in all the seasons perks before Christmas fever begins.. How else to better appreciate it than a booktag!

I came across this wonderful tag at @ Wildwood Reads and of course I had to do it! I’m not really sure who the original creator was but.. if you happen to? Please let me know!

#1 Favorite scary must-read for Halloween:

Not the scariest.. but this is one I’ve been looking forward to this Halloween season!

All These Bodies by Kendare Blake

Sixteen bloodless bodies.
Two teenagers.
One impossible explanation.
In this edge-of-your-seat mystery from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake, the truth is as hard to believe as it is to find.

Summer 1958. A gruesome killer plagues the Midwest, leaving behind a trail of bodies completely drained of blood.

Michael Jensen, an aspiring journalist whose father happens to be the town sheriff, never imagined that the Bloodless Murders would come to his backyard. Not until the night the Carlson family was found murdered in their home. Marie Catherine Hale, a diminutive fifteen-year-old, was discovered at the scene—covered in blood. She is the sole suspect in custody.

Michael didn’t think that he would be part of the investigation, but he is pulled in when Marie decides that he is the only one she will confess to. As Marie recounts her version of the story, it falls to Michael to find the truth: What really happened the night that the Carlsons were killed? And how did one girl wind up in the middle of all these bodies?

#2 Scariest book cover

This is not a book I would be leaving on the nightstand..

The Reddening by Adam L. G. Nevill

Winner of The August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel 2020.

One million years of evolution didn’t change our nature. Nor did it bury the horrors predating civilisation. Ancient rites, old deities and savage ways can reappear in the places you least expect.Lifestyle journalist Katrine escaped past traumas by moving to a coast renowned for seaside holidays and natural beauty. But when a vast hoard of human remains and prehistoric artefacts is discovered in nearby Brickburgh, a hideous shadow engulfs her life.

Helene, a disillusioned lone parent, lost her brother, Lincoln, six years ago. Disturbing subterranean noises he recorded prior to vanishing, draw her to Brickburgh’s caves. A site where early humans butchered each other across sixty thousand years. Upon the walls, images of their nameless gods remain.

Amidst rumours of drug plantations and new sightings of the mythical red folk, it also appears that the inquisitive have been disappearing from this remote part of the world for years. A rural idyll where outsiders are unwelcome and where an infernal power is believed to linger beneath the earth. A timeless supernormal influence that only the desperate would dream of confronting. But to save themselves and those they love, and to thwart a crimson tide of pitiless barbarity, Kat and Helene are given no choice. They were involved and condemned before they knew it.

#3 If you could go Trick-or-Treating with any author, who would you go with?

I would love to have a conversation with:

Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll was born on 27 January 1832. He studied at Christ Church, Oxford and went on to become a mathematics lecturer there from 1855 to 1881. Lewis Carroll’s most famous works are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (published in 1865) and the sequel Alice Through the Looking-Glass, which contains the classic nonsense poem The Jabberwocky (published in 1872).

#4 If you could dress up as any bookish character for Halloween, who would you be?

Jane Yellowrock: Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter

Lirael: Abhorsen series by Garth Nix

Celaena Sardothien: Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

#5 If you could find anything (from any book) in your trick-or-treat stash, what would you hope it would be?

Hermione’s Time-Turner

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling

‘Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board and we can take you anywhere you want to go.’

When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it’s the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run – and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry’s tea leaves… But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss…

#6 In what fictional world would you like to go trick-or-treating?

If we’re just talking about where to get the best candy, I would absolutely choose..

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which was originally a book, did you know that?) by Roald Dahl

Willy Wonka’s famous chocolate factory is opening at last!

But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

#7 What book villain would you like to not meet in a dark alley on Halloween?

Uhm.. I feel like common sense demands that I avoid all of them.
Stranger danger exists for a reason!

I would be even less excited to meet book *creatures in a dark alley so.. let’s steer clear of those, too.

#8 What would you rather dress up as: a vampire, zombie, werewolf or Shadowhunter?

Of course!
Let’s just randomly throw ‘shadowhunter’ in there and ignore all the other obvious choices like ‘ghost’ or ‘fae’ or maybe even a ‘witch’.. but no. Let’s go with ‘shadowhunter.’

*Ahem* My apologies. Moving on.

Vampires typically have a pretty killer wardrobe and, as long as they don’t sparkle or sport a southern accent, I’m in.

#9 Pick a candy from Harry Potter that you would love to find in your stash!

That’s awfully specific.

I would be interested in trying the ‘Fizzing Whizbees’.. They’re neither ‘alive’ nor just plain weird.

#10 What is your favorite Halloween candy?

If it is, has, or was dipped in chocolate.. I’m there.

Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith

Getting Chocolate Fever can change your ideas about chocolate and life!

Henry Green is a boy who loves chocolate. He likes it bitter, sweet, dark, light, and daily; for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks; in cakes, candy bars, milk, and every other form you can possibly imagine. Henry probably loves chocolate more than any boy in the history of the world. One day-it starts off like any other day-Henry finds that strange things are happening to him. First he makes medical history with the only case of Chocolate Fever ever. Then he finds himself caught up in a wild and hilarious chase, climaxed by a very unusual hijacking!

Omg this was such a fun read!! I would totally want the Time Turner too. Oh and I would pick Stephen King to go Trick or Treating with just cos he seems more Halloween-y lol.

    1. Sheri Dye

Thanks! I really like how creative everyone is with their tags! And I was stuck between the time-turner and the mirror to the library in Echo North.
And you are brave! I get the feeling that a Halloween with Stephen King would be unlike any other experience.. I’m just not sure if it would be a good or bad one. 😅😆

  2. Nastassja

Great and funny post! It made my day!

    1. Sheri Dye

Thank you! I’m glad to hear it and that’s so nice of you to say..
I hope you have a beautiful evening, be well!🌷

  3. Lady Tessa

The chocolate frogs are quite good, too, but I’d definitely avoid the jelly beans. Some of those flavors 🤮

    1. Sheri Dye

Chocolate usually is but.. All I can think of is how life-like they make them in the !movies. shudders
You are stronger than I.. I’m not sure you could pay me to eat those jelly beans! My nieces got some a few years back and I can’t believe how disgusting some of the flavors are. Yuck.

  4. Mae Clair

I have to agree with you about the cover for The Reddening. Eeesh!
All these bodies sounds good, and I’m on board with the time-turner. I could SO use one of those!

    1. Sheri Dye

There are so many freaky covers but something about that one just disturbs me. 😳
A time-turner would make it possible to actually finish our TBR’s.. Can you imagine? Everyone else might completely trash the timeline, history, and the world as we know it.. But readers? We’d be too busy to cause much trouble. Much.

  5. alisbooks

Such a fun tag! You gave me a couple books to add to the TBR. And you for sure chose the best place to go trick-or-treating!

    1. Sheri Dye

Isn’t it? I wish I knew who created it.. they should get credit for a job well done.
And I’m glad you found something you liked!
(I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished myself into Wonka’s factory!)
Thanks for your time and comment, have a beautiful week, and happy reading!
