2022 End of the Year Book Tag

It’s almost that time, friends..

This year has simultaneous flown and crawled on by
and we’re now inching at an alarming rate towards the end of another story in our lives.
Are you ready for 2023?

I know, I know..
There’s still Thanksgiving (in the states) and Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and who knows how many others. We’ll get to and through all of that but until then.. it’s a lot of scrambling to fit in as many last minute reads as we can.
The struggle is real!

Below are just some of the books I hope to fit in before the end of the year.
Enjoy!

I came across this tag @ The Irresponsible Reader and I figured I’d give it a go.. it’s just hard to believe the year is nearly over already. I would also like to thank the creator, Ariel Bissett, for sharing this wonderful tag with us.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Book series, yes. Standalone books? I don’t know.. It’s very rare for me to start a book and leave it unfinished.
Either I read it and it’s done or I DNF and move on.
I am currently in the middle of an anthology.. does that count?

A Universe of Wishes: We Need Diverse Books Anthology by Dhonielle Clayton

I’ve been making my way through this one slowly. Not that it’s uninteresting, it’s actually been a rather lovely read, I just like to sneak the short stories in between other books and tasks.

Close your eyes, make a wish, and step into a world where…

A princess has no need for a prince.
Memories vanish with the cast of a spell.
Dazzling ballgowns hide dark secrets.
The fight continues to create a realm where everyone can belong.
And the universe is yours for the taking.

In collaboration with We Need Diverse Books, fifteen award-winning, diverse authors created this powerful anthology of young adult stories about forbidden love, broken promises, and monsters long misunderstood.

This stunning collection includes writing from Samira Ahmed, Jenni Balch, Libba Bray, Dhonielle Clayton, Zoraida Córdova, Tessa Gratton, Kwame Mbalia, Anna-Marie McLemore, Tochi Onyebuchi, Mark Oshiro, Natalie C. Parker, Rebecca Roanhorse, V. E. Schwab, Tara Sim, and Nic Stone whose voices ring out in the wish for a braver and more beautiful universe.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I wasn’t even aware that autumnal transition books were a thing but I’m game..
Think the title’s a bit too on the nose?

Autumn Bleeds Into Winter by Jeff Strand

Somebody has been abducting children in Fairbanks, Alaska.

One of the victims was fourteen-year-old Curtis Black’s best friend Todd. Curtis saw it happen. He knows exactly who did it. But he can’t prove that it was his neighbor Gerald Martin. The authorities find no evidence of the crime. There’s nothing they can do. So he’s going to confront Mr. Martin himself.

And this is just the beginning of the terrifying story…

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Only like ten-thousand.. but let’s keep it simple and start with these.

Fairy Tale by Stephen King
The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond by Amanda Glaze
The Sacrifice by Rin Chupeco

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

The Neighbour’s Cat by J. S. Ellis
Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda
The Diviners by Libba Bray

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher

When Alex Easton, a retired soldier, receives word that their childhood friend Madeline Usher is dying, they race to the ancestral home of the Ushers in the remote countryside of Ruritania.

What they find there is a nightmare of fungal growths and possessed wildlife, surrounding a dark, pulsing lake. Madeline sleepwalks and speaks in strange voices at night, and her brother Roderick is consumed with a mysterious malady of the nerves.

Aided by a redoubtable British mycologist and a baffled American doctor, Alex must unravel the secret of the House of Usher before it consumes them all.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2023?

Haven’t we all?
Plans for new blog posts, books releasing, blogs to watch..
It’s probably not healthy but I’m starting to feel like we genuinely eat, sleep, and breathe words.

At least reading is still (probably) one of the least harmless obsessions there is.

Thank you for checking out my post!
Have you done this tag or something similar?
Leave a comment or link below.. I would love to check out what you’ve been reading!

On a more somber note: I also hope that during these celebrations, the lights we hang, and the old family recipes we painstakingly attempt to recreate.. that we can also send our hearts, prayers—or whatever good vibes/thoughts/or energy you’re comfortable with sharing—out to the families who are unable to take part in the holidays this year.

Good book tag, I haven’t thought about next year’s reading yet.

Thanks! And that’s probably for the best.. we’re busy enough as it is.

I can’t believe it’s that time again! I already have arcs I have to read for Jan 2023 so I’ll be starting those in December since I’ll be going on vacation soon. Great post!

    1. Sheri Dye

I know, right? I feel like I just took last year’s decorations down.
At least you have a plan.. I hope you enjoy the books and your vacation! Going anywhere fun?

Going to visit my husband’s family in Philadelphia and Upstate New York. It’s the first time for our kids seeing where their dad grew up so it should be fun!

That does sound fun! It’ll be cold as all get out but it will also be beautiful. Stay safe!

            Any time!

  3. Tessa

I read Fairy Tale by Stephen King. I think you’d like it. Excellent post!

    1. Sheri Dye

Thank you! I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.. it is Stephen King. I think the only issue I’ve heard anyone having with it is that it’s crazy long.

      1. Tessa

        So crazy long!

        1. Sheri Dye

Lol. Got it.. make sure I have plenty of time set aside for it. 👍

Okay. I have to ask — how do you have time to do all this wonderful reading? Just yesterday a friend recommended I read The 7-1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle… I usually don’t read best sellers but she was so enthusiastic I thought I’d try. And I always have a hard time staying interested in most books. I love all your recommendations!

    1. Sheri Dye

I really don’t have that much time to read.. maybe a couple hours a day. The thing is that I read very quickly.
And I have a hard time picking up the best sellers too. They’re so overhyped that you usually end up disappointed. (Did you enjoy The 7 1/2 Death’s of Evelyn Hardcastle?)
I’m so glad you enjoy them and thank you for saying that.. you’ve made my day! 🌹❤️

      1. humoringthegoddess

Sometimes that’s the best way to find new books!

        1. Sheri Dye

I think all of you, the blogging community, have been the best way to find great books.

  5. Janette

I love this tag and your anthology sounds brilliant.

    1. Sheri Dye

Thank you, it was fun to do! Let me know if you try it out, I’d love to see what books you would choose!
And the anthology really is brilliant so far.. I don’t know how they got so many incredible author’s together for this but it’s seriously impressive!

  6. D. Wallace Peach

So many good books here, Sheri. I have a bunch of books that I’m saving for December, and you make me want to add more. What Moves the Dead sounds utterly creepy. I’m looking forward to your review of Monstress, and I was intrigued by the way you read anthologies (a story between other books). What a great idea that I’m going to copy. Happy Reading!

  7. Sheri Dye

Oops? If it helps at all.. I know how you feel. I tried making a reading plan thinking I could get organized and more efficient and every month that plan went right out the window. There are just too many books coming out, being reviewed, being released, being waved in front of our faces.. it’s insane.
I think we’d both enjoy Monstress and What Moves the Dead, they sound delightfully strange.
And thank you for saying so.. It’s a nice feeling when something you do is appreciated by another person. I hope the anthology trick works for you as well as it has for me! 😊💕
