A Poem for Hope: Hope is the Thing with Feathers

Some days are harder than most and that’s okay.

I often find myself doing arts and crafts projects for friends and family members. We’re firm believers in hand made gifts around here, whether they’re our own.. or someone else’s.

(You’d be amazed what people can create if you go looking)

Well.. Mother’s day was really hard on my mother-in-law (and not just because of Covid) so I figured it couldn’t hurt to make her something special to lift her spirits.

She’s a very sentimental (that may just be where I get it from) and it’s made all the better because she appreciates what you do.

What a wonderful thing we take for granted..
Being appreciated.

For me? I find comfort in poetry and it’s ability to express what I can’t. So I dug around a bit and found this little gem by Emily Dickinson. I’ve always loved her works and hoped this one might be appropriately inspirational.

Hope is the thing with feathers (254)

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Emily Dickinson – 1830-1886

Never give up hope. It costs you nothing.

Remember to be grateful.. Nothing lasts forever.

And sometimes. The smallest actions. Have the greatest effect.

    Someone once said, “We can live a few weeks without food , a few days without water and a few minutes without air, but we cannot last a single second without hope.”
    Beautifully penned dear❤

    A lovely poem, Sheri. And there’s nothing quite as heartwarming as homemade gifts. Beautiful.
