Book Review of White Cloud by Joy Slaughter

A Strange and Surreal Psychological Thriller Novella

This book, in a nutshell, was an unenthusiastic read that barely held my interest.
Harsh, I know, but it was very frustrating.

I won an e-copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways and was looking forward to diving right in, which I did, and quickly devoured it.
Shame it wasn’t nearly as interesting as I had hoped.. but maybe you’ll feel differently.

If you do choose to give this book a chance, intrigued by the promising synopsis, I wish you best of luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Happy reading?

One POV

Two and a Half Stars

Ella’s a terrible paramedic, trouble seems to follow her every steps, and yet.. she’s never lost a patient.
The injured seem to heal faster and improve more quickly when she’s around but that’s not the strangest of it. Ella discovers there’s more to her gift than she could have ever imagined and becomes obsessed with testing it’s limits, damn the consequences.

Ella is not a good paramedic and worse.. she doesn’t even seem to care.
I read this book in one sitting and was actually relieved it was as short as it was. None of the characters are likeable but Ella? She rubbed me the wrong way to the very end.

Honestly, I wanted to like this more.
There’s potential for a great story here but it’s hindered by a complete lack of direction. Even the end was abrupt and seemed pointless.
There’s a lot of that.

Knowing more about the characters might have improved the book altogether but they’re given no backstory and we’re left with no clear idea of why Ella has this gift/what it’s true purpose is/where she came from/or how she came to be the way she is. Nothing is explained and it was frustrating.

The writing was good, by far the best part, and leaves me hoping that her future work will be more to my taste.

Would I recommend it?
I don’t know.. I feel like I’d be recommending jeans with holes already torn in them.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my review!
Have you read this? I would really like to know what you though about it..

And do try to stay safe out there, my friends, you and yours are all in my prayers.
