Book Review: Mountain of Lies by Jayne Evans

A Mountain. A Mystery. And a Madman, Oh My!

Welcome!

How has this first month into 2023 been treating you?
Well, I hope.

Today’s review is of a book that’s been neglected on my TBR for quite a while.. Now I’m kicking myself that I waited so long.
This is my first time reading Jayne Evans work and I have to say, she’s made a new fan.

This book is a lot of things but at its core it’s a suspense fueled crime fiction with great characters at the mercy of terrible people and their own secrets. If that doesn’t grab your attention.. maybe the dog will.

Check it out, it may be just the read you’re looking for!

Mountain of Lies by Jayne Evans

Publication date: December 18, 2016
Pages: 176
Genre: Crime Fiction, Romantic Suspense, Psychological Thriller
Book 1 of 1: The Pack

First line: The only reason she wouldn’t win this year’s Darwin Award was because they’d never find her body.

Characters: Real. Human. Likable.
Storyline: Interesting. Action-packed. Absorbing.
Pace: Fast moving.
Writing: Appealing. Intelligent.
Cover: 4

POVs
Two: Mia and Hudson.

Four Stars!

Trapped on a mountain by a series of unfortunate events, two very different people will go to extraordinary lengths to survive rockslides, drug dealers, and the dangerous secrets they both keep.

They’ll just have to:
A. Avoid getting caught up in a rockslide.. again.
B. Find a downed chopper full of drugs.
C. Outsmart the morons sent to collect them.
D. Try not to kill one another first.

Should be simple, right?

I couldn’t put this one down.
With a nice pace from beginning to end, a storyline packed with action and adversity, and characters that were not only interesting but likable.. Is it any surprise that I was hooked? But wait! There’s more!

The romance was done surprisingly well, not an insta-anything, which was a huge relief. Mia’s tough, Remy is charming, and both are keeping secrets. Does this cause misunderstandings and suspicion between them? Yes. Does it also make for good reading? Absolutely.

And did I mention Neville? Oh, my animal loving friends, you’re going to love him. This “dog” is such a delightful creature, protective of Mia, and trained in a way that will have dog owners everywhere green with envy. (Seriously, most people can’t follow orders so well.)
It should come as no shock then that he is, hands down, my favorite part of this story

The book isn’t very long and can easily be devoured in one sitting so if you’re looking for an absorbing read that won’t have you lost for days, I highly recommend keeping this one in mind.

Myself? I have every intention of reading more by this author in the future..
Especially if a second book in this “series” is ever released.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out today’s review, I hope it was helpful!

It does grab your attention, doesn’t it? It pretty much sets the pace for the whole book.
