It appears that the last month of slow days and quiet nights are at an end.
Today’s review is a bit lackluster.. The book didn’t really appeal to me and it’s made it difficult to write a review.
At least the books you adore or can’t stand inspire, ‘Meh’ reads are just that.
But who knows.. maybe it will be your kind of read.

This book wasn’t bad.. but it wasn’t very exciting either.
There was this almost immediate acceptance of Carissa’s gift that just wasn’t believable. Yes, one or two of the characters initially cried ‘Charlatan!’ but it didn’t last long enough to be anywhere near convincing. I can’t think of a single person I know who would accept a complete stranger coming in and going, ‘Oh, hey, sorry your kid is missing but my psychic gifts will lead us right to the bad guy.’
It was like reading a messed-up version of Dora the Explorer. Everyone went along with it and no one knows why.
I did appreciate that the “romance” didn’t take over. We started a book about a missing child and that remained the focus throughout.
I feel like this book, like a souffle, didn’t have enough time to ‘set’ and it just kind of fell flat..
The characters have almost no backstory, which made it difficult for me to connect with them.. and the storyline lacked the depth necessary to really draw me in. It’s a pretty quick read, so even if it doesn’t speak to you, you’re not investing too much time. It’s just a shame there wasn’t.. more.
Overall: I can see this being a good read for some.. but it’s probably not the best choice for anyone looking for a story that really sinks its claws in.
I am curious to see what else the author’s come up with, though. I’ve heard good things and I’d like to believe they’re true.

A shame that the book wasn’t as good as you had hoped.
It is.. but I have heard good things about the author and look forward to checking out her other books.

Aah doesn’t sound like something i would enjoy. Idk y it’s giving me the near witch vibes by ve Schwab and i didn’t like it. Lol
It wasn’t bad.. it just wasn’t very exciting either.
And I haven’t read any of VE Schwab’s books yet but The Near Witch does sound interesting. Why about it didn’t you enjoy, if you don’t mind my asking?
Aah well, it wasn’t the most original thing out there. And there was unnecessary romance in it. It’s okay if you’re not looking for something too addicting but otherwise I would put in the slump worthy category 😂. It wasn’t bad but it was pretty boring 😅.

I haven’t read this author, Sheri. Sorry to hear that the book fell a little flat. I’m not a big fan of “psychic” books in general. The cover with the grumpy face made me smile. 🙂 It sounds like you’re busy. I hope this week is calmer for you. Hugs.
