Book Review: Disobey the Duke if You Dare by Romance Machine K

A unique and captivating retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

Welcome, all!

Today’s post is a treat for fans of breathtaking artwork, fairytale romances, and looking for a quick read.
Yes, yes, I know.. it’s another graphic novel but—BUT! it really is worth checking out.

We all need a breather in between books every now and then. Sometimes we take a break entirely and other times we pick short, easy reads that we can lose ourselves in. Graphic novels, manga, webcomics? They’re great for fun, light reading and Disobey the Duke if You Dare is a perfect for that. A sweet and charming sort story that reimagines Beauty and the Beast is an interesting new way.

Do I think it’s for everyone? No.
No book is ever going to satisfy every reader.. but it may be just the thing you didn’t know you needed.

Enjoy!

After the death of her second husband, Lily is forced into a third marriage by her father. Her new husband, a duke, is rumored to be a monstrous warmonger, but to her surprise, he turns out to be a kind and thoughtful man. The only catch… she must never see his face. Will Lily respect his wishes, or will she disobey the duke?

This volume collects episodes 1-12 of the webcomic Disobey the Duke if You Dare.

My Thoughts:

First, the physical cover of this is gorgeous. With small holographic touches here and there, it shines and shimmers in the light. The art? Simply stunning. With beautiful, dream-like colors, clean lines, and attractive characters—it’s hard to look away.

The story is an interesting twist on Beauty and the Beast.. just with some more “adult” situations. (There’s no nudity or graphic sexual content on page but this is not one I would recommend reading with the little ones.) While it may be a tale as old as time, this graphic novel? comic? manga? will draw you in from page one and hold you captivated until the last page.

The characters are fascinating, endearing, and surprisingly entertaining. I certainly didn’t expect to find myself chuckling as much as I did and it just made the story all the more unique. From the main characters, to the side characters, I found myself interested or intrigued by them all—which I find very impressive.

I would definitely recommend this to fans of fairytale retellings, captivating romances, and gorgeous artwork.

That’s all for today..
Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my review and find yourself intrigued.
Stay safe, Be well, and Happy reading!

Well this is different. Graphic novels are just not something I have tried.
