October 2023: What Books Made Your Month?

So many great books to read—so little time..

Welcome!

Another month gone and so few left before the year ends..

It has been a very hectic month here, so despite the books I’ve had the pleasure of reading, I think we’re a little relieved that it’s almost over.
Below are all of the wonderful reads that have filled my month with shivers and adventures.

Enjoy!

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
The Sacrifice by Rin Chupeco
Girl on Trial by Kathleen Fine
The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge

What I’m Currently Reading:

Revelator by Daryl Gregory

In 1933, nine-year-old Stella is left in the care of her grandmother, Motty, in the backwoods of Tennessee. The mountains are home to dangerous secrets, and soon after she arrives, Stella wanders into a dark cavern where she encounters the family’s personal god, an entity known as the Ghostdaddy.

Years later, after a tragic incident that caused her to flee, Stella—now a professional bootlegger—returns for Motty’s funeral, and to check on the mysterious ten-year-old girl named Sunny that Motty adopted. Sunny appears innocent enough, but she is more powerful than Stella could imagine—and she’s a direct link to Stella’s buried past and her family’s destructive faith.

What I’d Like to Read Next:

Edenville by Sam Rebelein
The Night Raven by Johan Rundberg
The September House by Carissa Orlando

Books I’ve Picked Up/Won:

The Simarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
Beowulf by Seamus Heaney
Abandon by Meg Cabot

Foolish Haints by M. Scott Swanson
Publication date: September 29, 2023

A witch out of her element…
An evil specter set on gaining immortality…
A paranormally gifted girl’s work is never done.

April accepts the dangerous mission of uncovering the truth behind a series of disappearances on the mysterious coastal island of Turtle Key. Armed with nothing more than her resolve and unreliable supernatural “gifts,” April works with her makeshift paranormal team as they face mortal danger and uncover a terrible family secret.
