Did you know it’s July already? Enjoy this lovely Poem!

I adore this splendidly appropriate poem:
‘A Boat Beneath a Sunny Sky’ by Lewis Carroll

It’s been pretty busy lately! Many new releases and TBR reads to catch up on, summer holidays to enjoy, and the joyful chaos that is life to keep up with.

What to choose.. Something uplifting to chase away the shadows of the struggles we face? A summer poem, perhaps, that reminds us of the delights of nature and life?
Why not a little of both?

Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.

Lewis Carroll

When I want poetry that lifts my mood, distracts my mind, and touches my heart I reach for:

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson,(what a name, right?) better known under the pseudonym of Lewis Carroll, and easily one of the most recognizable authors(ever). ‘Alice’s adventures in Wonderland,‘(1865) and later it’s sequel, ‘Through the Looking Glass‘(1871) remain two of the most well-known and beloved classics for children and adults alike.
A mathematician, English logician(noun. a person who specializes in or is skilled at logic.)photographer, and novelist, Dodgson accomplished many extraordinary things in his life. Most importantly.. He touched the lives of countless readers, authors, poets, dreamers, and beyond.
(I’m a fan.. can you tell?)

And, while many of his poems are designed to enchant the reader, one of my personal favorites(and the most fantastically suitable) will always be:

A Boat Beneath a Sunny Sky

BOAT, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July–

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear–

Long has paled that sunny sky;
Echoes fade and memories die;
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die;

Ever drifting down the stream–
Lingering in the golden gleam–
Life, what is it but a dream?
