Book Covers to Love: Lions

To all of the Leos—this one is for you.

Welcome!

I had multiple ideas for what I wanted this month’s Book Covers to Love to feature but none of them really clicked..
Finally, I asked my husband for inspiration and he, a Leo himself, suggested lions. I just laughed.
Why I hadn’t thought of it myself I do not know but it feels right.
So, in honor of my own Lion, I’ve hunted down ten beautiful book covers to share with you.

Enjoy!

Four adventurous siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie—step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice.

Open the door and enter a new world!

Lion’s Honey by David Grossman

Israel’s most lauded contemporary writer retells the myth of Samson, one of the most tempestuous, charismatic, and colorful characters in the Hebrew Bible.

There are few other Bible stories with so much drama and action, narrative fireworks and raw emotion, as we find in the tale of Samson: the battle with the lion; the three hundred burning foxes; the women he bedded and the one woman that he loved; his betrayal by all the women in his life, from his mother to Delilah; and, in the end, his murderous suicide, when he brought the house down on himself and three thousand Philistines.

Journey Across the Hidden Island by Sarah Beth Durst

The traditional Emperor’s Journey is meant to be uneventful. But as the princesses Seika and Ji-Lin—twin sisters—travel to pay respects to their kingdom’s dragon guardian, unexpected monsters appear and tremors shake the earth.

The Hidden Islands face unprecedented threats, and the old rituals are failing. With only their strength, ingenuity, and flying lion to rely on, can the sisters find a new way to keep their people safe?

The Far Side of Grass : Tale of the Mapogo lions by Enzo Malavart

One of the great stories of our time; a true story, but not a human one.

In the north-eastern region of South Africa, next to the famed Kruger National Park, there lies a place unlike any other called the Sabi Sands. There male lions roam; not alone or in pairs, but in large coalitions of four or five individuals battling for control over prides and territory.

Amid this endless stretch of hostile grass, six brothers are born. Thrown into the wild at an early age, they will learn to put aside their inner strife and face the world as one. Together, they will grow into one of the most infamous, most violent lion coalition the continent as ever seen: the Mapogos.

This is their story. The hardships they endured, the moments of wild triumph they enjoyed, the scars they earned.

Above it all, this is the tale of an instinct: an indomitable need to always push through one more horizon, one more battle, in search of that ever-elusive far side, at the end of grass.

Bravelands: Broken Pride by Erin Hunter

A lion cast out from his pride.

An elephant who can read the bones of the dead.

A baboon rebelling against his destiny.

For generations, the animals of the African plains have followed a single rule: only kill to survive. But when an unthinkable act of betrayal shatters the peace, the fragile balance between predators and prey will rest in the paws of three unlikely heroes.

Set in an epic new world and told from three different animals’ points of view, Bravelands will thrill readers who love Spirit Animals and Wings of Fire, as well as the legion of dedicated fans who’ve made Erin Hunter a bestselling phenomenon.

The Path by Rick Joyner

Written in the genre of The Final Quest trilogy, this is a prophetic allegory that goes deeper, further, and higher, illuminating some of the most important truths of our times.

Between Two Worlds by Jodi Hockinson

Personal note: That is absolutely a lion on the cover, not a mountain lion.
Just saying.

The people of the Mountain Lion Clan live in the Blue Mountains of Oregon, in the foothills of Picpic Mountain, meaning “cat” in the Cayuse language. Their power is rooted in the heart of this mountain, and it diminishes when they travel too far away.
The people of the mountain lion clan believe that their brief travels though time are spiritual in nature. Temi exhibits exceptional power by traveling without warning as a child. Her mother panics and moves Temi away from the mountains.

John is simply a visitor in the mountains, who comes for his annual fishing trip. He crosses paths with Temi on three occasions, twice when she is a small child, and once when she is in her teens.

John and Temi meet up in the modern day, and begin to discover how their timelines are connected, and how their destinies might unfold.

There are unique “rules” to these people, such as what happens when a member of the lion clan breeds with a human, how it works when one jumps forward, or backward, in time, how the young come in to their powers, what happens when they stay away from the mountains, and even what happens when they die.

The Lion of Lark-Hayes Manor by Aubrey Hartman

Poppy Woodlock believes in magic, but so far, she hasn’t found any. It’s been two weeks since her parents moved their family to Oregon to undertake their biggest project yet: revitalizing the once-grand Lark-Hayes Manor. Her older brother instantly found his place, but after being thrown into middle school midyear, Poppy is feeling…invisible. So she retreats to where she’s always felt most at home: books and magic. And if the fantastic and supernatural exist, certainly they can be found in this mysterious old estate.

A late-night prowl leads Poppy to a desperate water nymph, with whom she strikes a dangerous bargain. In exchange for the thing she loves most—her favorite book— Poppy now has the secret of a lifetime: her very own flying lion. Sampson is exactly what she needs to prove magic does exist and, more importantly, that she is not to be so easily dismissed.

But the cost of ancient magic is astronomic. With every night Sampson grows, another book disappears, and Poppy soon faces the harrowing reality that without their favorite stories, the lives of everyone around her begin to unravel.

Fixing the chaos will require Poppy to be clever and bold, and even at her smartest and loudest, she’s not sure it will be enough. But she has to try.

Love: The Lion by Frédéric Brrémaud

Personal note: I could only find the French edition of this book but I liked the cover too much to exclude it.

In Africa, in Kilimanjaro, a young lion suffers exile in the heart of the prodigious expanses of Savannah. Life teems in this immensity, monumental in diversity, wealth, curiosities. However, the young lion continues on his way in a bad mood, plagued by the desire that gnaws at him…: to find his place in the troop he was forced to leave and challenge his father, the dominant male.

In the Savannah, each being must find its place or get lost.

Well, that’s all I have for you today..
It turns out there aren’t a lot of “pretty” book covers featuring lions but my fingers are crossed that one or two here jumped out at you.

Thank you for stopping by!
