September 2023: What Books Made Your Month?

How was your September?

Welcome!

Well, it’s somehow that time again, time to share all of our bookish adventures.

Despite September’s quick passing, it’s actually been a fun reading month. I’m currently participating in the #RIP challenge, a wonderful little challenge for those who love their reads on the darker side. You can read more about that Here or @ ReadersImbibingPeril if you’re interested in joining in.

Anyway..
None of the books below were particularly scary so if that’s a problem?
Don’t let it stop you from checking them out.

Enjoy!

What I’m Currently Reading:

These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs

Publication date: October 17, 2023

On a dusty backwater planet, occasional thief Jun Ironway has gotten her hands on the score of a lifetime: a secret that could raze the Kindom, the ruling power of the galaxy.

A star system away, preternaturally stoic Chono and brilliant hothead Esek— the two most brutal clerics of the Kindom—are tasked with hunting Jun down.

And tracking all three across the stars is a ghost from their shared past known only as Six. But what Six wants is anyone’s guess. It’s a game of manipulation and betrayal that could destroy them all. And they have no choice but to see it through.

Girl on Trial by Kathleen Fine
Publication date: October 24, 2023

Does doing one bad thing make you a bad person?

Sixteen-year-old Emily Keller, known by the media as Keller the Killer, is accused of causing the deaths of four family members, including young children. Emily is one of the youngest females to be accused of a crime so heinous, making this the nation’s biggest trial of the year. But what really happened that fateful night—and who’s responsible—is anything but straightforward.

Living in a trailer park in Baltimore with her twin brother and alcoholic mother, Emily’s life hasn’t been easy. She’s had to grow up fast, and like any teen, has made questionable decisions in a desperate attempt to fit in with her peers. Will her mistakes amount to a guilty verdict and a life in prison? It’s up to the jury to decide.

And that’s a wrap
Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the books!
None of them were as creepy as I’d like but they were still good and.. I still have time.

Any genuinely scary or deeply unsettling books you would recommend?
I’d really love something that keeps me up at night.

I’m still hoping to complete the book I’m currently reading in before the month runs out! I then still have one September book left but I will make a start on it and then run over into October.

I had a couple of great horror reads that made my month: Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison and The September House by Carissa Orlando!

It’s the season for horror novels, Sheri. It looks like you have the bases covered even if none of these are super scary. Happy reading!
