The Good Intentions Book Tag

Any of these books would/will be perfect to get lost in.

Welcome all!

Today’s post is a bit of a last minute thing, though not any less fun for it..
I stumbled across this tag on Books and travelling with Lynn @ lynnsbooks, who also happens to be the creator, and had to give it a go.
Thanks so much, Lynn, I really enjoyed this one!

As far as I can tell this tag is simple, you answer the questions asked with a book you think suits it best. That’s it. A simple but entertaining way to share some of your favorite and, hopefully, soon to be favorite reads.

I highly recommend checking out Lynn’s post, she chose some really great books, but for now..
Let’s check out what I’ve come up with, shall we?

Enjoy!

Exercise more:
This is a book that is a real chunkster, in fact you will need help to even pick this book up:

The Passage by Justin Cronin 785 Pages
Commanding Flame and Shield by S.J. Barnett
723 Pages
Never by Ken Follett
813 Pages

Lose weight:
A book that is not a chunkster; a short story or novella.  A book you could probably read in one sitting:

Follow Me to Ground by Sue Rainsford

Ada and her father, touched by the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they help sick locals—or “Cures”—by cracking open their damaged bodies or temporarily burying them in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, a being both more and less than human, is mostly uninterested in the Cures, until she meets a man named Samson—and they quickly strike up an affair. Soon, Ada is torn between her old way of life and new possibilities with her lover, and eventually she comes to a decision that will forever change Samson, the town, and the Ground itself.

Eat healthy:
A book that is good for you.  This is a book that made you feel so happy that you wanted to give it a big hug:

I loved this book! All of the characters were so unique and fascinating that I genuinely could not get enough.
And the best part? She’ll be releasing the second book later this year. *does a happy dance* I can’t wait!

The Clackity by Lora Senf

Evie Von Rathe lives in Blight Harbor—the seventh-most haunted town in America—with her Aunt Desdemona, the local paranormal expert. Des doesn’t have many rules except one: Stay out of the abandoned slaughterhouse at the edge of town. But when her aunt disappears into the building, Evie goes searching for her.

There she meets The Clackity, a creature who lives in the shadows and seams of the slaughterhouse. The Clackity makes a deal with Evie to help get Des back in exchange for the ghost of John Jeffrey Pope, a serial killer who stalked Blight Harbor a hundred years earlier. Evie reluctantly embarks on a journey into a strange otherworld filled with hungry witches, penny-eyed ghosts, and a memory-thief, all while being pursued by a dead man whose only goal is to add Evie to his collection of lost souls. Will she ever find Des, or is The Clackity planning something far more sinister?

Fulfill your ambitions:
A book that has a lot going on.  Plenty of different threads, points of views and action but everything eventually comes together in a very satisfactory fashion:

There was a lot going on in this book but, almost like a magic, the author brings it all together beautifully.

Acts of Violet by Margarita Montimore

Nearly a decade ago, iconic magician Violet Volk performed her greatest trick yet: vanishing mid-act. While Violet sought out the spotlight, her sister Sasha, had to be the responsible one. But Sasha can never seem to escape her sister’s tumultuous orbit. Then there’s Cameron Frank, determined to finally get his big break hosting a podcast devoted to all things Violet—though keeping his job hinges on an exclusive interview with Sasha, the last person who wants to talk to him. As the ten-year anniversary approaches, the podcast picks up steam, and Cameron’s pursuit of Sasha becomes increasingly intrusive. Meanwhile, Sasha begins to experience an unsettling series of sleepwalking episodes and coincidences, which all lead back to Violet. Pushed to her emotional limits, Sasha must finally confront the most painful truths about her sister, and herself, even at the risk of losing everything.

Alternating between Sasha’s narration and Cameron’s podcast transcripts, interspersed with documents that offer a tantalizing peek at Violet herself, Acts of Violet is an utterly original, propulsive story of fame, deception, and forgiveness that will make you believe in magic.

A book that was an absolute bargain – you would have to be crazy in fact not to have bought this book:

My better half actually found a beautiful leather bound copy of this book for 4$ at a thrift store. I couldn’t believe it.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again . . .

The novel begins in Monte Carlo, where our heroine is swept off her feet by the dashing widower Maxim de Winter and his sudden proposal of marriage. Orphaned and working as a lady’s maid, she can barely believe her luck. It is only when they arrive at his massive country estate that she realizes how large a shadow his late wife will cast over their lives–presenting her with a lingering evil that threatens to destroy their marriage from beyond the grave.

The Healer Series by Maria V. Snyder

Start a new hobby:
A book that is outside your comfort zone.  Perhaps everyone was raving about this book, maybe it was over-hyped, you hesitated to pick it up in fact, but when you did – you loved it:

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night her family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents could devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her.

I haven’t loved everything he’s written (there are so many) but I have a feeling this will be one of his best yet.

Your posts are so bad for me… or good for me, depending on the half-empty/half-full thing. I always find book to stuff into my chunky kindle. The Clackity caught my attention this time. A great tag, Sheri. That was fun. 🙂

Lol. Readers are awesome, we can bury eachother alive and be grateful for it.
And good choice! The Clackity is such a killer read! The characters are so strange and fascinating—you’re going to love it.

  3. Yolanda @ Past Midnight

I love the Fever Series but it’s been awhile since I read them and didn’t realize there’s an 11th book. I’ll have to read it eventually. Great post!

It’s been a bit for me as well.. I’ll probably have to take a few days at some point to just binge the entire thing.

  4. Rosie Amber

Phew! 800+ pages – those types hurt my hands when reading these days – Oh how things have changed. A big book used to be exciting in the past as it took a while to read. Now we want quicker books.

Right? I used to adore the longer books because they would actually last a while.. now I rarely pick them up for that same reason. Still, I’ll need to take some time soon and dive into a few I’ve put off.
How about you, looking forward to any chunky ones?
